Over 200 members of Ransom Church got together on Saturday to give back to the community-in the form of frozen turkeys.
"We are just hitting the neighborhoods and giving away turkeys door-to-door and we're surprising people,” said Pastor Phill Tague.
Tague said this is the 4th year that they've given away the turkeys and each year they are able to serve more and more people who may be less fortunate.
"Last year we were able to give out around 200 turkeys. This year we were able to up that number to 625,” said Tague.
Megan Koch is fortunate enough to be the one knocking on their doors and the one handing them their next meal.
“When people open the door they kind of don’t know what to expect. They are wondering why you are there and it's fun to surprise them with something unexpected,” said Koch.
She's been on the other side of that door for three years now.
Pastor Tague said he hopes next year they are able to help even more families.
“Our goal for the future is to try and do enough that we can pretty much hit every need within our surrounding area,” said Tague.
For a holiday season that's all about giving back, the members of Ransom Church know just how to celebrate.
“This is a time where everybody could use a little extra push and to get that turkey-to get that blessing- is a huge deal to a lot of people,” said Tague.
The church also had a turkey pick-up available at the church for those families who didn't live in the designated neighborhoods, but could still use the help.
