Metro Communications has recieved re-accreditation as an Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence.
It was first accredited in August of 2000. Metro was the first agency in South Dakota to achieve the distinction and the 45th center in the world.
The honor is based on their implementation and compliance with the Medical Priority Dispatch System. The system provides protocol for how to give instructions over the phone relating to medical emergencies and how medical personnel are dispatched.
Metro Communications Operation Manager Jen Disburg said, "It allows for a zero response time and when you're having a life emergency or a critical emergency, we can give you instructions right away so anybody needing CPR, we can provide that to you immediately."
The accreditation is voluntary and their employees must undergo a review system ever three years. Currently, only 117 centers have the accreditation worldwide and only two in South Dakota are accredited.
