Miss America Comes To Sioux Falls

Royalty visited the Sioux Empire Thursday.

Miss America was in Sioux Falls to bring attention to an issue that hits close to home.

It’s estimated over 2,000,000 kids in the United States have a parent serving time in prison. At 15-years-old Miss America Laura Kaeppeler became one of those children.

Thursday she spoke on behalf of Family Connection, a organization that provides services for families with a loved one who is incarcerated. Kaeppeler spent Thursday morning visiting with over 250 children from the Sioux Empire who have a parent in prison.

As Miss America, she hopes her story can inspire kids to aim for success.
