This week is Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week in South Dakota.
To help raise awareness of the struggles many people in our city go through, a memorial service was held behind Kilian College along the riverbank today.
Members of the Sioux Empire Homeless Coalition recognized those who have died in the last year who were homeless or worked with people who were homeless.
Pastor Joseph Holt said, "Each person read a verse, a scripture that was to that person and then took a flower down to the river and tossed it in so that the river which is a source of life and continues to flow will carry that life onward."
Along the riverbank where the memorial was held, is a plaque to remember the homeless who have died.
