Goodwill hosted their 38th annual Thanksgiving dinner Saturday afternoon and provided families who were less fortunate with a traditional holiday meal.
The line stretched around the South Dakota Achievement Center where hungry people waited to dine. Volunteers served heaping plates of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy and pumpkin pie for dessert.
Thousands of people attended the event and spent time eating, socializing and making new friends.
"We do this in our community of Sioux Falls simply because it's a good time for us to give back to the community. It's one of our traditions and it kind of kicks off the holiday season for us and hopefully the people who attend,” said Betty Durfee, VP of Development at Goodwill.
Goodwill said they always plan on making enough food for everyone that attends and make sure that no one leaves hungry. They also said any leftover food would be donated to area shelters.
