SD Communities Receive Block Grants For Projects

Bookmark and Share

Minnehaha County and five communities in South Dakota have received federal grants for a variety of projects.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has announced that Brookings, De Smet, Flandreau, Fort Pierre, Twin Brooks and Minnehaha County will receive more than $1.7 million to assist with projects totaling more than $7 million.

The funding will cover a variety of projects, including creating or improving Boys and Girls Clubs, building a wellness center and improving sanitary sewer systems.

The Community Development Block Grant is a reimbursement program, and communities receive funds as work is finished.

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor's Office of Economic Development administers it.
