Jackson Resigns Illinois House Seat

Embattled Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson junior resigned his U.S. House seat Wednesday.
Jackson, who has been on medical leave for treatment of a bipolar disorder, has faced a slew of problems in recent months, most recently a probe by federal investigators into his alleged misuse of campaign funds. He is reportedly negotiating a plea deal that would allow him to resign for health reasons, serve some jail time for the misuse of funds, repay any funds used for personal purposes, and retain his congressional pension.
Despite his legal and health problems, the 47-year-old was reelected to his congressional seat earlier this month.
The state of Illinois will hold a special election to fill Jackson's House seat.
