Officers, who have been killed in the line of duty, including officers in South Dakota, were honored Tuesday night during a service at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls.
“Project Blue Light,” is a nationwide movement that honors law enforcement members who serve our communities, while also remembering fallen officers.
The Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel, talked about the importance of paying tribute to the men and women who risk their lives each and every day.
"A proud and grateful nation will always remember their service and sacrifice. We ask God's blessing for the family and friends they leave behind," said Barthel.
Chief Barthel said as we head into the holiday season, excluding September 11, the three deadliest dates in law enforcement are December 24th, 25th and January 1st.
