Iowa Sets Hotline For Bullying, Suicide

Bookmark and Share

Iowa has launched a new program to help children, parents, school workers and others get help in preventing bullying and youth suicides.

Gov. Terry Branstad announced the program called Your Life Iowa on Tuesday at his Bullying Prevention Summit in Des Moines.

The Iowa Department of Public Health has set up Your Life Iowa in partnership with other organizations, including the Iowa Education Department.

The service is available by phone or text at 855-581-8111. Counselors will be able to answer questions and provide critical help to young people who are considering suicide rather than face more bullying.

At the summit, Branstad said state leaders will look at whether Iowa laws can be strengthened to help schools better address bullying.
