Cut-A-Thon To Honor Salon Shooting Victim

Over the past few months, the hairstylists at Cost Cutters Salon in Sioux Falls have gradually been putting their lives back together.
Back in September, their manager and close friend, Amanda Connors, was shot and killed in the parking lot trying to protect one of her employees from the employee's boyfriend.
Although there are still heavy hearts at the salon, the stylists have decided to partner up with Matrix Chairs of Change in planning a Cut-A-Thon to honor Amanda.
“Since, you know, the community has given so much already; we decided to keep it in the hair business,” says Kaylee Spolum of Cost Cutters.
On December 3rd, anyone can drop by and get their haircut for a minimum cost of ten dollars by some of the area’s best hairstylists; and all proceeds will go to establish a scholarship in Connors’ honor to the Stewart School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls.
“Well, Amanda really enjoyed going to school at Stewart. She had a lot of friends there. We actually, quite a few of her classmates, we actually work at Cost Cutters,” says Spolum.
The school has agreed to match up to $2,000 raised during the event, realizing it is a cause that Connors held dear to her heart.
“Amanda was just a great person. She had a big heart and she definitely would appreciate giving back to some, especially a girl who may be in need of financial help,” says Spolum.
Hopefully helping someone else follow their dream of becoming a hairstylist, the same dream that was taken away from Amanda Connors far too soon.
The event will be held Monday, December 3rd from noon until 6 p.m. Of course, even if you aren’t in need of a haircut; the public is welcome to drop by and make a donation.
