VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota senior point guard Juevol Myles made his first eight shots from the field in scoring a career-high 26 points in the Coyotes’ 88-68 win against IUPUI Saturday night at the DakotaDome. It was Myles’ third 20-point effort in his last four games.
John Hart, who transferred to IUPUI after earning a degree from Purdue University, scored a career-best 29 points, but couldn’t prevent the Jaguars from falling to 0-2 in the Summit League. IUPUI (3-6, 0-2 Summit) has lost five of its last six overall.
Myles had 19 first-half points in pushing South Dakota (4-4, 1-1 Summit) to a 49-33 halftime lead. Myles was 7-for-7 from the field including two three-pointers and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. He made his first shot of the second half and missed for the first time on a 3-point try with 14 minutes to play.
USD forward Karim Rowson scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half and finished a rebound shy of a double-double. Trevor Gruis added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Coyotes.
Behind Myles, South Dakota shot 70 percent in the first half (17-of-24). The Coyotes maintained at least a 14-point lead throughout the second half. South Dakota won the battle of the boards 42-27 and made more free throws (28) than the Jaguars attempted (7).
The Coyotes went 3-1 during their first home stand of the season. South Dakota hits the road next week for games against Iowa of the Big Ten Tuesday and Ball State Saturday.
