Those using Xcel Energy in South Dakota will see their bills go up in the New Year.
Xcel notified the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission that it plans to increase electricity rates by 11.5% while the commission decides whether to approve the increase.
An average residential customer will pay around $10 more a month.
Xcel asked the commission in July to approve a rate increase so they could raise around $19,000,000.
Stare law allows them to raise the rates while the commission considers the request.
If the amount approved by the PUC is lower than what Xcel wants, customers will be refunded the difference with interest.
