Bookmark and Share

Federal officials have charged a New Jersey man with illegally transporting explosive materials.

Anthony Nicholas Gallo of North Caldwell was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with transporting materials without a license or permit. A federal complaint says the 20-year-old traveled to Pennsylvania on Jan. 8 with a PVC pipe containing potassium chlorate and magnesium.

Authorities say Gallo was admitted to an emergency room in New Jersey on Jan. 19 for burns from another potassium chlorate explosion.

Court papers show that on Feb. 7 Gallo's parents told officials at athe University of South Dakota he would not be returning to school. A search of his South Dakota dorm turned up various incendiary chemical mixes, according to court papers.

It is not yet known if he has an attorney.
