Twins Revere trade for starting pitcher

Nashville, TN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for outfielder Ben Revere.


Worley, 25, went 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA (133.0 IP, 62 ER), 47 walks and 107 strikeouts in 23 starts for the Phillies last season. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound right-hander was drafted by the Phillies in the third round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Long Beach State. In 2011, the California native finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year balloting after going 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA (131.2 IP, 44 ER).


May, 23, went 10-13 with a 4.87 ERA (149.2 IP, 81 ER), 78 walks and 151 strikeouts in 28 starts at Double-A Reading last season. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound right-hander was drafted by the Phillies in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Kelso (WA) High School. May was named the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2011 and is currently ranked as the second best prospect in the Phillies organization by MLB.com.


Revere, 24, who was originally drafted by the Twins in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, appeared in 254 games for the Twins hitting .278 with 64 RBI and 74 stolen bases over parts of three major league seasons.
