Bad Weather Makes For Poor Travel Conditions

Bookmark and Share

Many drivers ignored the warnings to stay off the roads on Sunday, taking to the interstate to travel.

“It's definitely cold and nasty. There's more snow in Minnesota then there was here, but definitely blowing here which is making travel very difficult," said Joel Sarvey who was traveling from Minnesota to Wyoming for a funeral.

Blowing snow wasn't the only road bump for drivers. Not being able to see the car in front of you proved to be a problem too. Widespread areas of whiteout conditions with zero to near zero visibility made safe travel almost impossible.

"It was OK in Minnesota, but as soon as we got to South Dakota it was bad. We couldn't see anything," said Raquel Avila, who was traveling from Minnesota to visit relatives in South Dakota.

The snowplows had the task of trying to remove the snow faster than it was coming down.

"A lot of the trucks, we're taking our time getting by. The cars though? Some of them are sliding a little bit,” said Kattina Waits, a truck driver traveling from Fargo.

All drivers were encouraged to slow down and only drive on the roads if absolutely necessary.
