Corrections officials have released the costs of each of the two executions held in South Dakota this fall.
Officials say Eric Robert's execution on Oct. 15 tallied a total cost of $60,527. Nearly $44,000 of that total was spent on personal services for Robert and more than $16,500 was spent on operating expenses.
Donald Moeller's Oct. 30 execution cost slightly more than Robert's with a total of $60,620. More than $38,000 of that total was spent on personal services and $22,000 on operating expenses.
Robert and Moeller were the second and third inmates executed in South Dakota in a 65 year period.
Robert pleaded asked a judge to sentence him to death for the death of a Corrections Officer Ronald Johnson during a failed escape attempt in April 2011.
Moeller was executed after ending the appeals process. He had been sentenced to death by two juries for the 1990 rape and murder of a 9-year-old Becky O'Connell.
