On November 2nd the bones of two fetuses were discovered in Deuel County, about a half-mile from the Minnesota border.
Investigators from the Division of Criminal Investigation and Deuel County are asking for the public's help.
Deuel County in the winter is a place where you will find snowy roads and wind turbines in the distance. But, with the discovery of two fetuses in a shelterbelt in November, the Deuel County Sheriff's Department has some work to do.
“I've never seen anything like it before,” said Deuel County Sheriff Dave Solem.
The county that hasn't experienced a homicide in nearly two decades has investigators searching for clues about the death of two fetuses that were old enough to survive outside of the womb.
And investigators believe the remains had been there for a while.
“Well, according to the experts in that field, what they tell me is that it's making it tough for them,” said Sheriff Solem.
While the sheriff's office didn't specify where the bodies where found, we do know they found them on the southeastern part of Deuel County, somewhere near Astoria.
“The items that were discovered, there's not enough there to go on, other than the fact they know they were human bones,” said Sheriff Solem.
And that lack of information has the Deuel County Sheriff asking for help.
“In order for us to get this investigation ongoing, we need the publics help,” said Sheriff Solem.
A case with little clues has investigators searching for a suspect and a motive in rural Deuel County.
Since the location of where the remains were found is so close to the Minnesota border, Deuel County officials are also working with law enforcement in Minnesota.
Anyone who thinks they might have information on this case is asked to call the Deuel county sheriff's department or their local police.
The Deuel County Sheriff’s Office number is 605-874-8213.
