Twins sign pitcher Pelfrey to 1 year deal

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Mike Pelfrey on a one-year contract. Pelfrey will earn a guaranteed $4,000,000 salary in 2013.

Pelfrey, 28, made just three starts for the New York Mets in 2012 before having Tommy John surgery on May 1. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound right-hander, who was arbitration eligible, was non-tendered by the Mets earlier this offseason.  Pelfrey’s elbow surgery in 2012 marked his first career trip to the disabled list.

The Ohio native was originally selected by the Mets in the first round (9th overall) of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University. He has a career record of 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA (896.1 IP, 434 ER), 506 strikeouts and 318 walks in 153 appearances (149 starts); including a career-high 15 wins in 2010.
