The Sioux Falls community is mourning the loss of three children who died in a house fire Saturday morning.
At a little after 8 p.m. Sunday night, family and friends began gathering at the home where the fire broke out near Brookings and N. Main Ave. The heat was too much for firefighters to handle and they were unable to get to the children in time.
Two adults, the mother and step-father, survived the fire. But cthe bodies of 16-year-old Michael Hensley, 12-year-old Savannah Coon and 6-year-old Olivia Coon were found in a single room on the second floor of the home.
At the vigil was the children's babysitter. She recalls what it felt like when she heard the news that the children were dead.
Meisha Howard said, "I couldn't believe it had happened. Then I started to cry and I was just in shock that it even happened. I couldn't believe that they were gone."
A fund is set up to help the family of the victims. Donations can be dropped off at Celebrate Church on South Sycramore Avenue in Sioux Falls.
