A South Dakota National Guard unit has received orders for its first-ever overseas mission.
The 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, based in Pierre, is scheduled to leave in July for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan.
There are 69 soldiers in the unit, which was created about five years ago.
The group has been on alert for deployment since late 2011. It will be stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, for several weeks of training before leaving for Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Mike Oster, the battalion commander says the soldiers are prepared to do their duty.
