18th Annual Heroes Behind The Badges

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Sioux Falls police officers work together everyday at all kinds of emergencies around the city, but starting Wednesday the two departments will be on different sides.

The 18th annual Heroes Behind The Badges started Wednesday.

Police officers and firefighters try to gather as many people as they can to donate blood. Some firefighters were giving blood at one of the bloodmobiles outside The Original House of Pancakes Wednesday in Sioux Falls.

Last year the firefighters won, donating 600 units of blood. They are looking to win again this year.

Early results in from the first day have the firefighters leading the police 35 donors to 34.

The competition runs all the way to January 4.
