SD Juvenile Correction Programs Rate High

Bookmark and Share

For the second time, all of South Dakota's juvenile corrections programs have reached the highest status level possible in a national project that measures conditions and treatment provided to incarcerated youth.

The state Corrections Department says all three of the reporting programs at the State Treatment and Rehabilitation Academy near Custer obtained the highest status level during the October data collection period for the Performance-based Standards project. South Dakota in April 2011 became the first state to have all its reporting programs reach that status.

State Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk says the programs use the best treatment possible for juveniles placed in the programs by judges.

The Performance-based Standards project collects data twice a year to measure safety, security, order, medical and mental health services and other programming.
