Snow Removal Crews Busy After Snowfall

Ever since the most recent snowfall dropped more than 5 inches of snow on Sioux Falls, local snow removal businesses have been hard at work.
“The snowfall has definitely been nice. It keeps all the guys busy and helps out with the slower months in the winter time and the moisture is really good too,” said Tate Eining, owner of Kut & Kill, Inc.
Kut & Kill, Inc. is a lawn care company in the spring and snow removal service during the winter.
Eining says during the winter months his crew works around the clock.
“They're usually working from anywhere from 20-30 hours straight,” said Eining. “We have 22 commercial lots that we do and they all have to be done by 8 A.M. and we try to get them done by about 7:30 A.M. that way it gives us a little bit of leniency.”
They have to finish by early morning so businesses don't have a liability on their hands.
“If there's anything on the sidewalks or on the front of the businesses it can freeze that night and it can be very slippery,” said Eining.
They take extra measures to prevent any accidents.
“After we plow everything we go back through and sand all the parking lots and make sure they're safe to walk on,” said Eining.
Though commercial snow removal is expensive, Eining said it's well worth it.
"It's a lot cheaper than having a claim on your insurance,” said Eining.
While the work may be tough, Eining said he's thankful for all the snow that has fallen so far this winter.
“Last year was definitely a slow year for snow removal. So to be able to be this busy early on helps out. It is making up for last year a lot,” said Eining.
The crew finished the majority of the lots over the weekend, but will check back on them daily until the next snowfall.
