Sioux Falls Flyers Remain Perfect

The Sioux Falls Flyers Hockey Team completed a weekend sweep to improve their record to 14-0-1.  The Flyers hosted the Brookings Rangers on Saturday afternoon at the Expo Center with a 5-1 victory.  The Flyers were led in scoring by Brandon Appledorn who scored twice, Brextyn Burnette, Wyatt Nielsen and Caleb Anderson.  Josh Jackson recorded the win in goal as Sioux Falls outshot the Rangers 30-20.  Brookings lone goal came at the end of the first period by Austin Himley.  The loss was Brookings 3rd of the season in which 2 of them have been by the hands of the Flyers.  

Sundays game featured the Watertown Lakers who were on the losing end of a hard fought battle 8-5.  Coach Bruce Abels in his 3rd year at the Flyers coach said "We didn't play our best game of the year today, but a win is a win and hopefully the boys will learn that at times you just have to gut it out".  The Flyers Brandon Appledorn scored 4 goals and added an assist, while Caleb Anderson tallied 3 goals and 3 assists.  Parker Dawes finishing off the scoring for the Flyers which resulted in the highest output of goals for the year as a team.  Spencer Mannes recorded the win in stopping 16 of the Lakers shots.  Next up for the Flyers will be this next weekend as they travel  up to Minneapolis for a tournament at Eden Prairie.

At the half way point of the season the Flyers sit atop of the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association standings with 16 points and are followed by Brookings and Pierre which each have 14 points.  Josh Jackson of the Flyers leads the State in goal tending with a .947 save percentage, Brandon Appledorn leads the State in goals scored with 15 followed by teammate Caleb Anderson who is tied for 2nd with 11 goals.  Caleb Anderson and Wyatt Nielsen are currently in the top 5 in the state for assists.
