Two Sioux Falls families started the new year off with bundles of joy. The first New Year's baby boy was born at Sanford Hospital at 3:30 A.M. followed by a baby girl at Avera Hospital at 4:37 A.M.
Erin and Michael Wescott welcomed baby Cohen on January 1st. The first New Year's baby weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. and measured 19 inches long. This is the second child for the couple. The family feels blessed to have two healthy boys and is excited to be able to say they were the first.
"It's one of those things you're going to love or hate- your birthday being on a holiday like that, but him being the first one born will be really special in the future,” said Erin Wescott.
Shortly after baby Cohen was born, baby Irelynn became the first baby girl of the New Year. The 6 lb 15 oz. little girl was born at Avera Hospital to Shelby Edelman. Edelmen said she is thankful for her new addition and is looking forward to the perks she gets as a new mom to a New Year's baby.
"I guess I get a spa treatment. That will be nice. I'm looking forward to it!” said Shelby Edelmen.
The nurses at Avera also pitched in and bought diapers for the new mom.
