SF Sports Authority Names New Exec. Director

Bookmark and Share

Wesley Hall is the new executive director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, the organization announced Friday.

Hall replaces Mike Sullivan, who retired from his post as the Sioux Falls Sports Authority’s top official in December after joining the then newly formed organization in 2008.  As executive director, Hall will be responsible for coordinating and implementing activities to attract and secure sports-related businesses and events.

For the past six years, Hall served as the assistant director for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI), an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state of Iowa that is the oldest, largest and longest recreational bicycle touring event in the world.  He was also the tour coordinator for Bike Virginia, another bicycle touring event, from 2003 to 2007. In both roles, the Virginia native coordinated event logistics, provided marketing support and handled budgets.

“We went through an extensive national search for this role, and Wesley’s proven track record in the field of sport management will be an invaluable asset to this community,” said Kevin Lampe, board chairman of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. “In his former roles with bicycle touring events, he increased revenue and participation and was a model for best practices for community engagement.”

“The city of Sioux Falls is quickly turning into one of the top sporting hubs in the Midwest,” said Hall. “This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a community so hungry for the entertainment options sports can provide.”

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. The organization attracts international, national, regional and state sporting events by operating, leasing, enhancing or owning sports facilities in the Sioux Falls area. It is run by a board of directors made up of 15 community members and the executive director.
