Rapid City police investigated a false report of plane hijacking early Friday that appears related to an earlier pursuit in Box Elder.
Rapid City police spokeswoman Tarah Heupel says that officers responded to the airport but determined there was no hijacking.
She says the call appears to have been made by someone involved in a Thursday night pursuit.
Authorities in Box Elder say that 29-year-old Donald Belile failed to stop after being flagged down for a broken taillight. Police say he fled south on Radar Hill and officers pursued with speeds nearing 100 miles per hour.
The car was found abandoned a short time later and Belile was arrested on charges including aggravated eluding of a law enforcement officer.
