Chamberlain Awaits Start Of Center's Construction

Ground conditions and a recent cold streak have delayed the start of construction of Chamberlain's new community center by about two weeks.
City Engineer Greg Powell says that a contractor tore down Chamberlain's old city hall in 2012 and the city didn't compact the ground properly. The city has since re-compacted the ground.
Recent cold temperatures caused further delays.
Powell says that although construction is a little behind, he expects the 110-by-120-foot building to be complete by mid- to late-June.
The City Council agreed last year to tear down the decaying former city hall, which had not been used for years. The building was demolished in May and June.
Powell says the downtown community center will draw more business to the area.
