New legislation in Pierre would allow for school boards to create "school sentinel's" that would be armed in schools. School employees, security guards or volunteers can be utilized as sentinel's.
House Bill 1087 was filed on Thursday.
The legislation specified that no school board could arm a teacher without their consent. It also dictates that school boards need to "interface" with law enforcement prior to arming the "school sentinels."
School districts would not be required to impliment these programs.
