Police in North Mankato say a convicted felon armed himself with an arsenal of weapons because he thought he needed to protect his family and neighborhood from the government.
Authorities say a search of the Michael Caya's house also turned up methamphetamine and other drugs.
Drug agents say guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia were found lying around the house within reach of Caya's young children. A criminal complaint filed in Nicollet County District Court says at least seven weapons were found, including handguns, shotguns and a rifle.
The 29-year-old father faces 22 felony counts, including drug and weapons charges.
The complaint says Caya told investigators that despite his drug addiction, he thought he would make a good police officer because he has good morals and makes ethical decisions.
