A little off the beaten path, up I-229, there is a road to finding a cure.
"We believe we are really close,"said Jolene Loetscher.
Over the years, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk To Cure Diabetes has been held at a number of locations. Most recently, for the past few years at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls, but this year organizers thought this location was just right.
"We are so excited to to be able to be at the Sanford Research Center, because it give us a lot of space, but even more so, the families that have or have been affected by Diabetes, as they walk the walk they will literally be able to go through research labs where work for diabetes research is happening,"said Loetscher.
The research facility at Sanford is in a word, massive. Just trying to make a loop along the proposed route will take you about a half hour. But all this added space has many purposes, one in particular to allow for future growth.
Each year the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has continued to grow, and with that support from the community, this year's fundraising goal is up to $315,000
"With each day that passes we come one step closer, and with that money we raise, it also brings us closer to that research that will find a cure,"said Loetscher.
A step in the right direction, with hopes for a medical miracle.
