Skyforce Streak Snapped At Rio Grande Valley

HIDALGO, Texas -- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers set a franchise record of seven-straight wins with Saturday's 123-104 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce at State Farm Arena.

 

The bench led the Vipers as Toure Murry scored 22 points and Vernon Macklin recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Ohlbrecht had 17 points, and Maalik Wayns and Terrel Harris each added 13 points. Donatas Motiejunas scored 12 points, and Andrew Goudelock posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

 

The Skyforce were led by Damian Saunders with 26 points. Donald Sloan contributed 23 points, followed by Mark Tyndale with 17 points. Mike Davis tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Mychel Thompson scored 11 points.

 

The Skyforce held the lead throughout the first quarter and built their largest lead at 25-15 on a shot from behind the arc by Saunders with 3:20 on the clock.

 

A dunk from Murry early in the second quarter tied the score at 30-30. Harris followed with a layup to take the 32-30 advantage. From that point, the Vipers never let go of the lead and entered the half up 55-48.

 

Throughout the second half, the Vipers held control. By the end of the third quarter, RGV built its lead to 91-75.

Sioux Falls opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to make the score 91-84 on a layup from Tyndale. Murry responded with a 3-pointer and the Vipers never looked back.

 

Sioux Falls is at home to Reno on Friday in a 7 p.m. CT contest.
