One person was injured Sunday morning after their home went up in flames just north of Sioux Falls. Fire crews were called to the home on north Kiwanis Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

Nestled in trees of off north Kiwanis Avenue just north of Sioux Falls, sits a home, now charred. Renner Fire Rescue Chief Mike Schmitz said when his crews arrived at the home Sunday morning; it was fully engulfed in flames.

"Upon arrival we had flames on the south side of the building,” said Fire Chief Mike Schmitz with, Renner Fire Rescue.

When crews entered the home, they were able to contain the flames rather quickly, and then Schmitz said the hard work began.

"(We are) Venting the roof, and working on the attic, the fire is in the attic at this time,” said Schmitz.

Crews spent nearly two hours fighting the fire and getting hot spots out.

There was only one person in the home at the time of the fire, who was outside when crews arrived. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, suffering burns to his arms.

His home however is a complete loss.

"With the extent of the fire damage, it will be considered a total loss," said Schmitz.

Fire officials said now the investigation begins.

Fire crews from Baltic and Crooks also responded to the fire. Officials said there were still crews on scene Sunday evening making sure nothing catches fire again.

The condition of the man is unknown at this time.
