The plans for a new elementary school in Sioux Falls have been put on hold.
The Sioux Falls School District decided that there was not enough interest to build a new school in the northwest corner of the city during a board work session Wednesday.
They stressed that no official decision has been made.
Last year 125 incoming kindergartners applied for the Spanish immersion lottery, which prompted the board to establish a fourth kindergarten class. But that number has been dwindling and only about 100 were signed up for this year.
The school board is now weighing several options, including a smaller school in Sioux Falls, or possibly adding onto existing sites like Lowell Elementary or Robert Frost.
