Wolters is Summit Player of Week again!

Bookmark and Share

ELMHURST, Ill. – For the sixth time this season, and for the second straight week, The Summit League named South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters as its Player of the Week.

“I think if you just look at the stats, he deserved player of the week, regardless if he’s gotten is five times previous to this week, it doesn’t matter, and the nice thing is that they recognize that and that they don’t worry about how many times he’s won it,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “He had a tremendous weekend, and not only was his weekend good, but when we needed him in the biggest moments, that’s when he shows up, and we knew that when we recruited him; that he’s big in big moments, and he was this weekend. It’s one of those things that’s almost expected at this point, but we’re certainly glad he’s on our basketball team.

Wolters tied The Summit League record with his sixth Player of the Week award this season after leading South Dakota State into sole possession of first place. Against IUPUI, Wolters scored 18 points in just 27 minutes while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Two days later in a first-place showdown against Western Illinois, Wolters tallied 28 points against the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense (51.7 ppg) in a victory that lifted the Jackrabbits to the top spot in the league standings. He had a game-high six assists and three steals and connected on 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) field goal attempts and 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc.

For the week, Wolters averaged 23 points per game, shot 60 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from three-point range. Wolters now has 14 career Player of the Week awards, the second-highest total on record.

In addition to the Summit League honor, College Sports Madness named Wolters its player of the week for the sixth time this season

Wolters and the Jackrabbits return to action on Wednesday at CSU Bakersfield at 7 p.m. PT, (9 p.m. CT) and then take on Murray State on Saturday in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters at 7 p.m., in a game that can be seen live on ESPN2.
