(Kansas City, Missouri) - Kendra De Jong of Northwestern (Iowa) has been named the final NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2013 season, the national office announced Tuesday.
De Jong, a 6-foot forward, averaged 21.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead the Red Raiders to a 2-0 week. In a 89-63 victory over Mount Marty (S.D.) on Feb. 20, De Jong tallied a team-high 23 points and collected a game-high 16 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The senior from Hospers, Iowa, followed that performance her 12 double-double of the season by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds in an upset victory against No. 7 Concordia (Neb.) in the Great Plains Athletics Conference semifinals. De Jong has recorded seven-straight double-doubles.
Nationally, De Jong ranks fifth in total rebounds per game (10.76) and total rebounds (312), 11th field goal percentage (.532), and 19th in points per game (17.55).
