HARRISBURG, S.D. -- Many thought the Parker Pheasants would be just another footnote in Kieran O'Malley's record setting career. After all, Parker had already lost to Centerville during the regular season.
Instead the Pheasants put an end to O'Malley's stellar prep career.
O'Malley scored 28, finishing as South Dakota's fifth best all time scorer with 2,599 points.
But in the Region 4B Championship she struggled for every score against a ferocious Parker defense. The Pheasants built a 17 point lead in the third, only to see Centerville rally to take a one point lead.
Parker, who went to state last season, wasn't phased, regaining composure and taking a two point lead in the closing seconds.
Centerville went to O'Malley, and the Parker defense smothered her, forcing a game ending turnover, and helping the Pheasants get sweet revenge.
"We just needed to take a minute to breathe. We were kind of getting a little bit too excited and we were going crazy so we just needed to take a minute to breathe and play our game instead of their game." Parker Senior Guard Morgan Hay says.
"Centerville also knocked us off two years ago in the region game. And the girls had it in the back of their head. You know this set girls that have been on the floor are the ones that have been there from two years ago when we were taken out of that. And they liked the taste of it last year so they used it to their benefit." Parker Head Coach Tami Jurgens says.
