Heavy-Hearted SF Christian Beats Madison

Bookmark and Share

TEA, S.D. --  24 hours after laying their teammate Alysa Vollmer, her brother and parents to rest in a funeral ceremony at Sioux Falls Christian high school, the Chargers made good on one of Vollmer's biggest dreams.

Sioux Falls Christian defeated Madison 63-32 in the Region 3A championship game, earning the school's first bid to the state tournament since 1986.

Hayley McCarron, one of Vollmer's best friends, scored 25 points in the victory.

Players wore black wristbands and shirts with Vollmer's number 22 on them.  Fans also had shirts honoring Vollmer and her brother Caleb.  A moment of silence was held prior to tip-off.
