BRANSON, MO -- One year ago Dakota State's bid to upset the #5 seed at the NAIA Division 2 Tournament in Branson fell short in overtime.
This year the Trojans took care of business in regulation.
DSU rallied from three down at half to defeat #5 Warner Pacific 89-80 in the opening round of the NAIA Division 2 Tournament in Branson, Missouri.
Dakota State (23-9) was bolstered by a strong shooting performance. The Trojans shot 60 percent from the field (32-of-53) and just over 43 percent from three point range (10-of-23).
Five Trojans scored in double figures led by John Lamb's game-high 26 points. Cameron Krump added 19, Marcus Smith and Luke Lamb each tallied 14, and Yusef Vinson had 10.
Dakota State will play unseeded St. Thomas (Fla) in the second round tomorrow night at 9:15 PM.
