The 2013 Summit League Basketball Tournament officially began on Saturday and fans from all over the region have descended on the Sioux Falls Arena and Convention Center to take part in the action.
Thousands of fans filled the stands at the Sioux Falls Arena Saturday night, to watch their favorite teams battle it out on the court.
“The atmosphere is amazing, it's indescribable. Once the games start it's not an atmosphere that you can describe," said SDSU Junior, Ermias Lamesgian.
Loyal South Dakota State fans watched their team take the court in the first game of the evening, hoping for another big win.
“We've been a really good team this year so we’re looking to continue that and make it into the NCAA tournament so we can go make another trip to the big dance,” said Lamesgian.
University of South Dakota fans were excited to cheer their team on as well, this being the team's first time in the tournament.
“I married a man whose whole family went to SDSU so I, for years, have had to come to the Summit League and support SDSU which is fine, but it's nice this year to be able to bleed a proud red!” said USD Alum, Rebecca Shultz.
“I got an adrenaline rush, a lot of excitement! I hope we see a lot of red in the crowd!” said Darrell Solberg, a loyal fan of USD.
USD’s loss ends their season while SDSU moves on to the semifinals.
