Winter Storm Rain & Snow Totals

Bookmark and Share

The large winter storm that’s been affecting our area has finally moved off to the east. This storm produced a rather impressive amount of rain and even snow with more than an inch of rain falling in some areas and more than 6 inches of snow in other areas.  Unfortunately though, very little of this moisture will help ease the drought because the ground is still frozen.  But the good news… river, stream, and lake levels will be rising which should help replenish some of the water lost over the last year or so.  Below is a look at all of the precipitation that has occurred over the weekend.

Let's start with the rain.  Many areas of the south and east recorded anywhere from a half to three quarters of an inch.  But some spots managed to get way more than that.  Here’s a list of some of the harder hit areas.  Remember that the melted snow that much of the area saw (with the exception of northwest Iowa) is in these liquid totals.

And now on to the snow totals...  A couple impressive bands of snow developed in this storm. One set up in the north and west, and a second in the southeast.  These two bands yielded some heavy snow with very little distance between the areas that received a bunch and the areas that didn’t get a flake.  Here is a look at the storm totals.
