SIOUX FALLS -- The South Dakota Coyotes relished their first opportunity to play in the Summit League Tournament.
They just didn't enjoy the result or their second consecutive ten win season.
USD's bid for a quarterfinal upset against Summit League regular season co-champion Western Illinois fell short 54-53. Western Illinois won three games against South Dakota this season by a combined five points. USD finished the season 10-20.
"We gotta remember it for it to motivate us. We can't remember it and make it hurt us down the road." Junior Center Trevor Gruis says.
"All these guys are first or second year guys and, you know, losing close game is such a fine line between winning and losing in this league. I thought we showed well this year in the Summit League." Coyote Head Coach Dave Boots said.
Though the ending was sour, the Coyotes all agree that playing in the Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls was special. This was the first year USD was elibible to compete in the event.
"Thought it was a great atmosphere. Like that it's sold out, there was a little bit too much blue in the stands for my liking tonight." Gruis said.
