SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --  Pierre's star players were more than a decade away from being born the last time the Governors won a boy's basketball state championship.  But in a year in which they were favored to win the state title, they delivered when it mattered most.

Pierre pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Brandon Valley 50-39 in the Class AA State Championship at the Sioux Falls Arena.  It is Pierre's first state title since 1982.

The two teams were knotted at 25 at halftime and Brandon Valley took a four point lead into the final quarter.  Pierre dominated the fourth quarter.  The Lynx got their last field goal of the quarter at the 4:01 mark and were outscored 18-3.  Lane Severyn, a South Dakota State recruit, led all scorers with 24 points.  Creighton-bound Zach Hanson scored 11.

Chase Marso had 17 and Jacob Adams 13 for Brandon Valley.
