SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- A shot from Lane Severyn helped end 31 years of frustration for Pierre Governors.
The SDSU-bound senior's Nate Wolters-esque three with the shot clock winding down was the daggar in the Govs 50-39 state championship win over Brandon Valley.
The title has been a long time coming for Pierre.
31 years to be exact.
The Govs last state title was in 1982, a full decade before any of their current stars were even born.
"We could see that it was possible this year and it didn't look good at the beginning of the season. We were out of the gates 2-4 and we really had to buckle down. They didn't give up hope." Coach Terry Becker says.
"Suffered a couple losses, they were all close games, so we got a lot of experience in that part. And, you know, put three good games together at the state tournament, and we're on top of the world right now!" Severyn says.
