An early morning fire destroyed a Sioux Falls home. Around 2:15 Saturday morning Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was called to the home on the 500 block of Minnesota Avenue.
When fire crews arrived they say heavy flames and smoke were coming from the first and second floor of the home. Eighteen firefighters worked for 40 minutes to get the fire under control. An aerial apparatus was used from the exterior to get the rest of the flames out.
Officials say the home is an unsafe structure and is a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to change the batteries in all smoke detectors twice annually, and check them on a regular basis.
