The Augustana women's basketball team is less than 24 hours away from their first ever tip off in the D2 Elite 8.
And in between practicing and checking out the sights they also got a chance to spend some time with a local elementary school.
And even the athletes who won't be playing tomorrow were making a difference.
Third, fourth and fifth graders at Carroll Bell Elementary School in San Antonio have no problem showing the Augustana women's basketball team how they stay fit.
The team quizzed the students on their NCAA knowledge and even played a few games.
Augustana basketball player Katie Meister said, “We had no idea. We didn't know any of them going into it and by the end we made a bunch of new friends.”
Thanks to a stress fracture Katie Meister will be watching from the sidelines on Tuesday. But Monday while students from a school in South Dakota interacted with a school in Texas, she made a special bond.
Meister said, “During the dancing of the cupid shuffle some of the teachers were telling me to go dance on the side because I was in the middle. And then they were like dance with this little girl.”
Meister said, “She was kind of embarrassed to dance with her boot and her whole class is doing the cupid shuffle so I said don't be embarrassed.”
While the Augustana women prep for one of the biggest games of their lives, they find a little extra time to make some new friends.
