Attorney General Marty Jackley is asking South Dakotans to talk with their elderly family, friends or neighbors about the dangers of sweepstake scams.
The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has had several victims come forward and file complaints against “sweepstakes telemarketers.”
The telemarketers will say that a prize has been won but addition funds are needed to claim it.
One South Dakota senior lost over 75,000 dollars after a sweepstakes telemarketer promised a 15 million dollar prize.
