Largest Meth Bust In Sioux Falls History

Bookmark and Share

A Wednesday morning meth bust in Sioux Falls turned up nearly nine pounds of meth and over $94,000 in cash.

Forty-two-year-old Regina Renee Johnson rented a room at a southwest Sioux Falls hotel on Tuesday.  When Johnson checked out of the room she apparently forgot a large amount of cash under the bed.  She returned to the hotel and staff refused to allow her into the room because someone else had rented it.  Hotel staff became suspicious of Johnson and called police.

Nearly $87,000 in cash was found in the room.

Detectives found out that Regina Johnson rented the room and pulled over a vehicle belonging to Johnson Wednesday afternoon on South Shirley Avenue near the intersection with South Louise Avenue. The driver, forty-two-year-old Robert Raymond Jackson and passenger, Regina Johnson, were arrested when K-9 units found nearly nine pounds of methamphetamine, $3,000 cash, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Officers searched the suspect's home in the 1400 block of East 91st Street North. They found about 14 grams of methamphetamine and about $3,700 in cash. Arrested at the home was 19-year-old Austin Jon Dalstead, Regina Johnson's son.

All three face charges of distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana less that 2 ounces, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Dalstead also faces a maintaining a place where drugs are sold.

Police Chief Doug Barthel says it's the largest meth seizure in the city's history.
