A study has concluded it could cost as much as $38 million to bring the Barnett Arena at Rapid City's civic center into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The report was released by the civic center's board of directors, which last July proposed spending up to $150 million to build a new arena. The study was done by a local architectural firm and verified by a general contractor that built facilities in Denver and in Grand Forks, N.D.
The federal Justice Department is in the midst of investigating a complaint that Rapid City's civic center is not complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The source of that complaint has not been publicly released.
