Young Named New Warden State Penitentiary

Bookmark and Share

The Department of Corrections has announced that Darin Young has been named the next Warden of the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Young will replace Doug Weber, who is retiring from the position of Director of Prison Operations and Chief Warden in June. Young will report to Mike Durfee State Prison Warden Bob Dooley, who will assume the Director of Prison Operations and Chief Warden duties upon Weber's retirement.

Young has worked for the Department of Corrections for 21 years. He left the DOC to become Warden of the Minnehaha County Jail in July 2011.

Young says he looks forward to working with Weber and Dooley as he transitions back into the State Penitentiary. He will rejoin the DOC in May.
